💜 The process of changing our name has been in motion over the last few years now. It is not common for organizations to vote collectively on a name like we did last month, but in trust with our values, we chose to co-create with the community as a radical experiment of opening up power-with and emergence.
🍰 The name is one ingredient of a strong brand identity along with logo + visual identity, language, values and culture. It is challenging to succinctly share what went into the process to date over the last few years and then open up a a final vote. Opening up power-with community this time around starts with sharing some of the thinking and resources behind the process so far. We’d like to begin sharing the ingredients and impact of what makes this community special and where we see ourselves headed next so we can co-create together and involve more of you in this process.
Some of you have shared reflections with us about whether we should even change our name to begin with. We’ve built up a strong brand. Though our brand recognition is strong, it’s a time when many organizations are changing their name too. It’s a time to reflect the world we want to live in. The name ‘SheEO’ is a portmanteau that centres the gendered binary pronoun ‘she’ with a top down title like ‘CEO’. We’re re-aligning towards the future we wish to co-create together — one beyond the binary and towards collectivism, reciprocity, equity and inclusion.

Behind the scenes we’re constantly experimenting with new ways of explaining the complexity and entanglement of our ever-evolving work. We know that different people will respond to different mediums and methods of storytelling our community impact and what we are building together. Over time, we’ve engaged with think tanks, activators, ethnography students, and brand strategists to experience our community and reflect back their unique perspectives of what we are co-creating here.
